Day 1

Take the ferry from Dakar to Gorée Island, Senegal. As you approach, enjoy the view of the colorful colonial buildings and the turquoise waters. The 20-minute ferry ride gives you a first impression of the island’s charm and serenity.

Once you arrive, take a few moments to walk along the pier. The historic port area is a great place to start your journey, where you can see fishermen with their boats, local artisans selling crafts, and the beautiful coastal views.

A must-visit on any itinerary to Gorée Island, the House of Slaves (Maison des Esclaves) provides a powerful, emotional insight into the history of the transatlantic slave trade. Learn about the history of slavery, and don't miss the infamous "Door of No Return," a symbolic point where enslaved Africans were shipped across the ocean. Reflect on the significance of the island and its role in shaping the African diaspora.

After lunch, wander around the charming cobblestone streets, and admire the colonial architecture, brightly painted houses, and the vibrant atmosphere.

As the sun sets, head to Fort d'Estrées, one of the most scenic spots on the island. From here, you can enjoy panoramic views of the Atlantic Ocean and Dakar in the distance. The warm colors of the sunset create a peaceful atmosphere, ideal for relaxation and reflection.

Day 2

Begin your day with a walk along the quieter side of the island. Head to one of the peaceful beaches for a relaxing experience. The pristine beaches are perfect for a morning swim or just to unwind by the shore, enjoying the view of the ocean.

Spend the late morning exploring the Canarien Botanical Garden, a small oasis of greenery with native plant species and are part of the island’s efforts to preserve its natural beauty.

Have lunch Chez Tonton, close to the ferries

After a final stroll around the island, board the ferry back to Dakar. As you leave Gorée, take one last look at the island’s unique landscape — the memories of your immersive experience will stay with you long after your departure.
