Auschwitz-Birkenau, the notorious Nazi concentration camp in Poland

Duration: 2 days

Ideal for: travelers seeking reflection, history buffs, and solo travelers

Day 1

Travel to Oświęcim by train, car, or bus. Oświęcim is easily accessible from Kraków (about 1h15 by train)

Stay in a guesthouse or rent an apartment and take a moment to relax and prepare for the emotional journey ahead.

Explore the town of Oświęcim, which has a rich and complex history. Oświęcim was home to a thriving Jewish community before the Holocaust, and remnants of this history can still be seen today. You can visit the Old Jewish Cemetery for example.

Day 2

Head to Auschwitz and take a guided tour of the camp’s establishment, learning about the conditions for prisoners and the atrocities committed during the Holocaust. A guide will help you navigate the museum’s exhibitions and explain the context of the exhibits.

Just remember to book your visit at least one month in advance at Select the type of the visit - Państwowe Muzeum Auschwitz-Birkenau

Another way to learn more about this tragic chapter of modern history is taking a workshop. Here's the list: Workshops / Study visits / Education / Auschwitz-Birkenau

A visit to Auschwitz is emotionally intense. It’s important to take breaks when needed and to reflect after each visit to process your thoughts.
