Day 1
Begin your day by arriving at Anse aux Meadows National Historic Site. The site is located on the northernmost tip of Newfoundland, offering stunning views of the rugged coastline and the North Atlantic. Upon arrival, take a moment to appreciate the serene landscape—vast fields of grasses, dramatic cliffs, and wildflowers surround the area, providing an atmosphere that transports you to another time.
Head to the visitor center, where you will be introduced to the history of the site through an interactive exhibit. Learn about the Norsemen who arrived here around 1,000 years ago, and the archaeological discoveries that have made Anse aux Meadows a UNESCO World Heritage Site. You'll be able to view artifacts, reconstructions of Viking tools, and multimedia displays explaining the Viking voyage to North America.
Pack a picnic to enjoy in one of the designated areas
Join a guided tour to explore the heart of Anse aux Meadows. Your guide will lead you through the recreated Viking village, where you can walk in the footsteps of the Norsemen. Visit the turf-roofed sod houses, which were once home to the Vikings, and learn about their daily lives—how they hunted, fished, and crafted tools. The guides, often dressed in Viking-style costumes, will explain the significance of the site and its connection to the Norse sagas.
Day 2
Start the day with a walk along the nature trails that weave through the coastal landscape. The trails offer a peaceful retreat with opportunities to observe the local flora and fauna. Keep an eye out for seabirds and seals, which are often spotted along the coastline. The sound of the waves crashing against the rocks provides a calming backdrop as you immerse yourself in the natural beauty that surrounds the site.
